Opportunity to serve!!!! The North Texas Food Bank works to provide meals to those facing hunger in North Texas. One of the closest distribution centers is here in Sunnyvale at Sunnyvale First Baptist Church. The next distribution day is April 26th. Please see the following ways and times available for you to serve.
1-Set-up and assembly (sacking items for families) begins approx. 8:30am
The volunteers park at the east worship center entrance, entering the building under the porte cochère. We begin by relocating and setting up tables to stack the food on. We relocate cases of canned goods to allow social distancing while building the orders. Food is pulled from the pantry and an alt. location, placed on a cart, rolled to the worship center entrance and placed on the tables where it will be sacked. Below is the team which usually accomplishes this task, but I can easily modify it with advanced notice.
2-Transport is 10:30am
Where are they transporting to and from?? Gentlemen meet here (same entrance) at approx. 10:00a. The drive their personal trucks over to North Tx Food Bank, 3544 E Emporium Cir, Mesquite, TX 75150 to fulfill our appointment time of 10:30a. Once the dock workers drive all the pallets outside the warehouse, the men physically lift the cases of food, fruits, vegetables, breads etc. into the vehicles and drive it back to the church. The items are lifted again and brought inside. The produce must be sorted and broken down to hand out to each family that afternoon.
3-Distribution is around 4:30pm
The cars begin lining up as early as 4:00p. Everyone meets at the east worship center entrance, entering the building under the porte cochère. All the clients will drive through to obtain their food. Volunteers relocate food from tables to carts and wheel them outside to waiting cars. Once distribution is completed, all the tables and equipment must be stored again. Cleaning crew is waiting for us to finish to reset the building from Sunday service.
